SuSWel: Sustain Well – A Journey to Sustainable Health

As a former tech professional at a leading global internet healthcare company, I took pride in contributing to innovations that aimed to change the world. However, my sense of accomplishment faded when faced with the harsh realities of health and medicine.

Diabetes and its complications claimed the lives of both my grandparents, and my mother lived in constant fear of the disease from the age of 40. Despite her vigilance, she was diagnosed with diabetes at 65. At around 40, I, too, began experiencing symptoms of prediabetes and metabolic health issues, such as high visceral fat levels.

For a long time, I believed these problems were solely the domain of medicine and healthcare professionals. Yet, through extensive research, I realized that modern medicine excels at treating acute conditions but often falls short in managing chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension (as extensively discussed in the bestseller "Outlive"). Crucially, I discovered that the best time to intervene in diabetes is during the prediabetic stage, where lifestyle changes can make a profound impact. However, the healthcare system rarely focuses on this preventive phase, creating a significant gap.

This gap represents a global tragedy: approximately one-third of adults in the U.S. and worldwide have prediabetes. Modern medicine struggles to intervene effectively at this stage, often only addressing the disease once it progresses to full-blown diabetes and its costly complications. By then, the damage is done, and patients are left with a diminished quality of life, inching closer to severe health issues and even death.

Determined to change my fate, I utilized a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and my technical knowledge to reverse my prediabetes within three months. My fasting glucose levels dropped from 105 mg/dL to 94 mg/dL, my Time in Range (TIR) improved from 70% to 98%, and my HbA1c decreased from 5.7% to 5.3%.

This personal victory inspired me to create a solution that could benefit many others. I envisioned a model suitable for various chronic conditions: using wearable technology to monitor the body, gaining insights into the impact of lifestyle habits, and employing cognitive behavioral therapy to gradually change those habits. This approach can reverse prediabetes and return individuals to a state of normalcy, keeping them healthier for longer.

Our brand, SuSWel, stands for "Sustain Well." We draw inspiration from the lessons in "Outlive" and leverage the latest advancements in wearable technology and AI. Our mission is to empower individuals to take control of their health, making sustainable wellness a reality for all.
